![]() Providing what is absolutely necessary and nothing more useable guitar sound somewhere at the summitġ0. ![]() Not putting the user at the base of a steep mountain. Empowering the user instead of asking them to play "engineer"ĩ. Less is more design approach, giving users more creative time and less "screwdriver mode"Ĩ. Software IR loader that is fun and extremely fast and easy to use (I've installed it and checked it out)ħ. The most simple UI for an amp modeling product to dateĦ. Strymon's signature super wide stereo imaging found in most of their pedalsĥ. 32bit Floating Point / 96kHz sample rate vs Fractal's 48kHz sample rateģ. 500 millisecond IR length, more than double that of Fractal Audio hardware - industry benchmark amp simulationĢ. Iridium presents technical achievements that are new and make the product innovative. I will be putting it up against the latest firmware from Fractal as soon as I have one to test. The only question that remains for me personally is how the Iridium sounds and feels when playing through it. The Iridium design seems to be perfect for people who are creative and don't want anything getting in the way of creative moments. That makes a huge difference in how the day goes for me. If I put an Iridium pedal in front of a client and say the same thing, they would turn the knobs for a few seconds, flip through the amp choices, turn the knobs a bit more and a couple minutes later, we would have our guitar sound and the client would be happy that they got to participate dialing it in themselves. If I am working with a client in the recording studio and sit them down in front of the Fractal Axe-Edit screen and say "okay go ahead and dial in your sound", the response I get is either a bizarre stare or "can you do it Bob?". Mainly, a true stereo amp simulation pedal (not a menu driven multi-effect) that integrates into a pedalboard setup or stereo pedal chain. Some basic needs were not being met within the amp simulation market for many years. Strymon have them beat on UI design but Eventide's effects algorithms are among the best I have never heard. Besides Strymon, Eventide has always impressed me in a similar way with how they design products. Source Audio and Boss have made obvious Strymon-like products but now, even Fender Musical Instruments is imitating Strymon pedal enclosures and desperately attempting to imitate the sounds with little success. I imagine Strymon operate in a similar way which is why they repeatedly show up with products that raise the bar, followed by imitations across the entire gear industry. Like a competition within the company itself. He solved the most basic problems with home computers and had multiple teams within Apple working on the same problem, taking different directions for solving those problems simultaneously. This is how Steve Jobs made Apple successful. While most others act like they know the entire market inside and out, Strymon are open minded enough to do the legwork to find out about the problems that need solving in the existing amp simulation market. We would have to completely redesign everything from the ground up and frankly, there aren't enough people that would want it. Thanks for sharing your ideas but at this time, we have no plans to go in the direction of stereo with our product. Ok Bob, we will design a pedal like that just for you and you can buy one unit and our company will go bankrupt.Ĩ. A product with those features is for people who buy entry level gear BobĤ. The majority of people run in mono and don't really care about stereo Bobģ. There is not enough of a market for a product like that BobĢ. Here are some of the responses I received:ġ. Simple amp-like controls and true stereo inputs and outputs to support integration with today's popular stereo pedals from companies like Strymon, Meris, Eventide, Boss, Neunaber, GFI Systems, Source Audio. The Iridium is the exact kind of user interface/ feature set that I have been asking the digital amp modeling companies including Fractal to build. I've been using the Fractal Audio Axe-Fx units, now on my 3rd version since before anyone knew what a Fractal Axe-Fx was. When you are standing there naked with one sock on and about to pull your other sock on your other foot and a musical idea comes to you suddenly, which piece of gear is going to translate your idea from your inner ear to your recording medium without getting in the way of your magic coming to life? For me, that is the most important question I ask myself about gear.
